So, after 5 lovely weeks of travelling around, I have finally made it to my intended destination, Sydney, Australia! (You can clap if you'd like...)
But anyways, it was a 24 hour bus trip down here from Hervey Bay, and another hour train ride to the University. But I am finally here. It is quite lovely actually, very park-like. It was the most amazing feeling ever driving over the Sydney Harbor Bridge and seeing the Opera House out the bus window, it really got me excited.
Tomorrow I am off on another little trip before orientation and classes. It is a dolphin watching cruise and swimming no white sandy beaches. Then, aw shit, classes actually start, what a drag, seriously, it's not like anyone else has been in class, right?!
Well, I need to find the supermarket or I am going to starve tonight...

| Hot and Sticky |

So, I have finally arrived, arrived in Australia. We got in Cairns (I know you want to say 'carns' but it's pronounced, 'cans', so say it right!) last night around 11:30 and it was 28 degrees (84) and it was midnight! We luckily found our way to the hotel after bumming a dollar off a janitor to call the stupid place. But oh well, that's half the fun, right?!
So, needless to say, we are essentially stuck here, not a bad place to be stuck, but we are stuck. All the road out of the city are flooded and no buses are planned to leave until Tuesday. A whole city is landlocked and you would never here anything on American television about this, who knew?
Tomorrow we are going scuba diving at the Great Barrier Reef. The next day we are going white water rafting, because the rivers are so loaded from all the flood waters, it will make a jolly good time. After than we board a bus for 11 hours to Whitsunday Island where we sale for around for 3 days in a sailboat. Then to Frasier Island, the largest all sand island in the world, where Drew drives me a round and I drink beer in the back of a Jeep. (You have to be 21 to drive, but only 18 to drink, eh, lucky me).
So, anyways, it should be quite lush, to say the least. Hope all is well back in EL, kinda missing it... maybe a little... ok, not really, who am I kidding...

So, yesterday was pretty uneventful, we went skydiving, had great pizza and beer with some Brits and watched the sunset over the Southern Alps and Lake Wanaka, just the usual hustle and bustle...
But no, seriously, skydiving, the shit. We jumped from 15,000 feet and got pictures and a video, it was so sick, I am lazy and don't want to HTML this, so go to this link:

It's right before I jumped, it was so lush, it was out of control. The weather here is absolutely gorgeous, 70's and sunny. I would update this in more detail, but I have a regular journal and this just seems like extra work, plus I have to pay for internet.
Hope everybody is enjoying EL, I have yet to find somewhere where I can upload pics, but I am searching tirelessly for it. We fly out of New Zealand to Australia on Feb. 2nd, so a new adventure is coming soon...

| Sunburnt and Loving it |

So, we are now down to southern New Zealand, right in Wellington. Yesterday we went to Lake Taupo, and it was like 75 degrees and just as clear as can be. I was only out for like 15 minutes before I got sunburnt. And now I am so red and hurting, my face hurts, the top of my feet hurt, and my arms hurt. But I can't complain, I would rather have sunburn than frost bite...
A couple night ago, a group of us from the hostel in Taupo went to the hot pools with beer and tequila. It was a 30 min walk but well worth it. It was Drew, me, 2 German guys, a german girl, a Swedish guy, and English guy, a Slovenian girl. It was so clear and dark that you could see so many stars. You have no idea how bright the stars are down here, it is amazing! We stopped at a hot pool in one of the state parks. It was a shallow pool with about 110-115 degree water and a little waterfall. Naturally warm and toasty and a ton of fun.
Well, we have a ferry that leaves Wellington for Picton tomorrow morning at 8:25, so we have to drop our car off, hop on the ferry, pick up our other car, and then we are off to explore the south island for 10 days. Hope all is well in Michigan, missing everybody a ton...

| Cave adventure and such... |

So, here I am in New Zealand. How adventurous I know, right?! So, instead of getting a bus pass we decided to rent a car. So now we have a nice little 4 door Nissan to cruise around New Zealand for, for 16 days. Today, while all you f'ers were walking to class in the snow and taking tests, Drew and I went cave tubing in the mountains of New Zealand and saw glow worms. Yeah, that's what I thought. Anywhozle, it was a pretty adventurous first couple of days. The flight wasn't that bad, we stopped in Fiji at an outdoor airport, so we got to see a little bit of the countryside there as well. Enjoy the Michigan weather! |

So, beginning of the trip has been smooth and exciting, I have been spending the last few days in California with Drew's cousin, it is like 60 and amazing. We went to the Long Beach Aquarium today, amazing, and I haven't even needed to wear a jacket at all. We wake up late, get good food, do fun things and just hang out, California is tight. Nothing to eventful yet, I'll keep you all posted... |
